DISCOVER THE POWER OF CHOICE

SMART Recovery is a science-based approach to addiction recovery that is built on the principles of self-empowerment and self-reliance. The program provides individuals with the tools and skills they need to overcome addiction, regardless of their specific substance use disorder or behavior.

The program is based on the 4-Point Program, which focuses on:

  1. Building and maintaining motivation to change.

  2. Coping with urges and cravings.

  3. Managing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

  4. Living a balanced life.

HOW SMART RECOVERY IS DIFFERENT THAN 12-STEP PROGRAMS

SMART Recovery's approach is different from traditional 12-step programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) because it doesn't rely on a higher power or require individuals to admit powerlessness over their addiction. Instead, SMART Recovery emphasizes personal responsibility and empowers individuals to take control of their recovery journey.

One of the unique aspects of SMART Recovery is the use of tools and techniques from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), and other evidence-based approaches. These tools and techniques include:

  • Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA): A technique used to help individuals weigh the pros and cons of their substance use and make more informed decisions about their behavior.

  • ABCs of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT): A tool used to help individuals identify and challenge negative and irrational beliefs that can contribute to addictive behavior.

  • Hierarchy of Values: A technique used to help individuals clarify their personal values and goals and prioritize them in their lives.

SMART Recovery offers a variety of resources and support for individuals seeking recovery, including:

  • Online meetings: Regular meetings are held online to provide individuals with the opportunity to connect with others in recovery, share their experiences, and offer support to one another.

  • In-person meetings: SMART Recovery meetings are held in various locations around the world, providing individuals with the opportunity to connect with others in their community who are also in recovery.

  • Workshops and training: SMART Recovery offers workshops and training for individuals who are interested in learning more about the program or becoming facilitators themselves.

  • Online resources: SMART Recovery provides a wealth of resources online, including a forum for individuals to connect with others in recovery, worksheets and other tools to support recovery, and a 24/7 chat room for individuals who need immediate support.

SMART Recovery is an evidence-based, science-based approach to addiction recovery that empowers individuals to take control of their recovery journey. With its focus on personal responsibility and evidence-based tools and techniques, it offers a unique and effective approach to addiction recovery that can be tailored to the needs of each individual.
