MORE HOUSING NEEDED

Colusa County's Transitional Housing Program
Review grade: C+

The Colusa County Transitional Housing Program is managed through Health and Human Services and helps individuals and families transition from homelessness (or risk of homelessness) into permanent housing solutions.

This attractive and well-maintained  5 unit complex has a wait list for families and offers only one unit for adults without children (or adults with 1 child) and is not a viable solution for Colusa County's underserved adult homeless population.

Residents fortunate enough to get into this program are expected to participate in activities that promote living skills and self-sufficiency as well as search for permanent housing.

Colusa County Recovery gives transitional housing an overall grade of 'C+' and encourges the county to invest in additional transitional housing solutions.

For additional information on program qualifications, program fees, and availability, call (530) 458-0250 or go to Colusa County Health and Human Services located at  251 E Webster Street in the City of Colusa, and ask to speak with a housing specialist.

ENCOUNTERS
"I met a really interesting homeless senior on Monday, July 28th, who was passing through Colusa. He was a former elephant (animal welfare) handler. His job was to care for rescued elephants, that had been removed from situations of exploitation or neglect, and relocate them to a nurturing sanctuary or protected environment. That sounds a lot like supportive housing to me."  --Susan Wagenaar
