Clean and Sober Nation has emerged as one of the standout channels in YouTube's alcohol-free space in 2026.

Creator Susan Wagenaar has taken what could have remained a traditional recovery channel and blown the doors wide open. Recovery is still in the DNA, but it now shares the stage with comedy, AI-powered storytelling, lifestyle, culture and the occasional fire-breathing dragon.

Bold, provocative and often flat-out funny, Clean and Sober Nation has found an audience well beyond traditional recovery circles—drawing teetotalers, long-term sober viewers, health-conscious Gen Zers and the sober-curious.

When asked what inspired the channel's evolution, Wagenaar points to a gap she discovered while studying the alcohol-free space.

“I looked at about 25 sobriety channels, and after a while I realized I was seeing variations of the same conversation. Most were speaking to people who were trying to quit drinking or were early in recovery—and that work matters. But what about the people who had already been sober for five or ten years? What about those who were choosing to be alcohol-free and didn't necessarily identify with traditional recovery? I saw an audience that wasn't being talked to. That's when I knew exactly where I wanted Clean and Sober Nation to go.”

At the center of that evolution is Wagenaar's own digital twin, who hosts the channel and gives its creator a virtual presence across an expanding range of stories and topics. But one digital Susan apparently wasn't enough.

Enter Susan 2.0—a mischievous character who has developed something of a grievance against her creator, whom she calls “Boss Lady.” Then there's Tiny, Susan 2.0's enormous black dragon. Together they've become the stars of Cloned to Be Wild, one of several original series appearing alongside Giggle Rehab and Epic Love Stories.

The channel hasn't forgotten the audience that helped build it, either. Its recovery programming features a curated collection of some of the funniest and most memorable AA and NA speakers, bringing humor and lived experience to an international audience.

Rather than making alcohol the subject of everything, Clean and Sober Nation is increasingly making life without alcohol the setting for everything else.

With the channel gaining thousands of subscribers each month, Clean and Sober Nation is on a trajectory that could take it past 50,000 subscribers in early 2027.

Along the way, Wagenaar may have created something that didn't really exist before—a new YouTube niche that moves beyond traditional recovery programming and puts the emphasis on what comes next:

alcohol-free lifestyle and entertainment content.
